Audition and Portfolio Dos and Don’ts
DO…● Find the instructions/guidelines for each college and follow them.
● Get organized with a calendar and/or spreadsheet for each college with dates, requirements, confirmations, etc.
● Be prepared to talk about your selections, career goals, and background.
● Select pieces that are meaningful to you.
● Conduct research on the college, the department and the faculty who will be conducting your review.
● Have an extra song, monologue, selection, etc. ready to go if asked.
● Remember you are being evaluated from the moment you arrive on campus (or at another audition site). Be respectful and polite with everyone you meet.
● Be yourself! Colleges are looking to see the real you.
DON’T…● Make selections that are on the edge of your ability or beyond it.
● Stay on campus with a student the night before auditions.
● Make any last minute changes to your selections.
● Be intimidated… the people conducting your review are passionate about the Arts, just like you.
